Wix Schema Markup: Presets, Custom JSON-LD, and Limits

IchonicUpdated August 04, 202611 min read

How Wix schema markup works: presets, AI-generated blog markup, custom JSON-LD under 7,000 characters, up to five markups per page, and what it will not do for review rich results.

Wix schema markup is structured data (JSON-LD) that helps search engines understand page types like products, articles, and events. Wix ships presets for several verticals, can AI-generate markup for blog posts, and allows custom markup in the editor and SEO Settings. Schema improves eligibility for rich results. It does not guarantee them.

What schema does on Wix

  • Labels entities for crawlers (product, article, event, and more)
  • Can support rich result eligibility when Google chooses to show them
  • Must match visible content on the page
  • Is maintained as JSON-LD in Advanced SEO / Structured Data Markup and in SEO Settings for page types

Preset and default markups

Wix automatically adds preset markup for common page types when you create them: Wix Stores products, Wix Bookings services, Wix Blog posts, and Wix Events. Presets can use variables so each page fills fields like name and URL dynamically.

  • Local Business markup can be added automatically on the homepage when you set a business name and location
  • Sitelinks search box markup can be added when you install the Wix Site Search app
  • FAQ structured data can be enabled for collapsible FAQ lists in Wix Blog posts; Google's FAQ rich results are limited for many site types, so do not expect SERP FAQ expansion by default

Review presets in SEO & GEO → SEO Settings → page type → structured data controls. Disable or customize only when you understand the impact. Confirm live options in Wix Help; verticals and toggles can change.

AI-generated markup for blog posts

Wix can AI-generate structured data for Wix Blog posts only. It scans post content and creates relevant schema. For other page types, use presets and/or manual JSON-LD. Enable it under SEO & GEO → Tools and settings → SEO Settings → Blog posts → Customize defaults → Structured data markup → Activate AI-generated markups.

AI markup does not replace the need for accurate visible content. Confirm the current Help article if the toggle path moves.

Adding custom JSON-LD

Preferred path for a single page (Wix Editor, per current Help):

  1. Open the Wix Editor.
  2. Go to Pages & Menu.
  3. Click More Actions next to the page.
  4. Open SEO basics, then the Advanced SEO tab.
  5. Open Structured Data Markup and click Add New Markup.
  6. Paste valid JSON-LD only, then Apply.
  7. Publish and test with Google's rich results tools when needed.

You can also manage structured data for whole page types in dashboard SEO Settings (SEO & GEO → SEO Settings → edit by page type). Use that path when you need shared defaults or variables across many product or blog URLs. Studio Editor steps follow the same Advanced SEO / Structured Data pattern; confirm labels in your editor.

Rules and limits

  • JSON-LD only (Wix does not accept other formats as the primary path)
  • Each markup add must be under 7,000 characters (confirm live Help if the limit changes)
  • Editor Structured Data UI: up to five markups per page
  • Do not mark up content that is not visible on the page
  • Keep multiple markup blocks organized and non-conflicting

UI labels can change. Prefer the current Wix structured data Help article when editing production sites.

Reviews and rich results

On-site product reviews still help shoppers and can add indexable text. That is not the same as review rich results in Google.

Important

Proofy Reviews does not output review JSON-LD or AggregateRating rich-result markup. Do not promise SERP stars from installing Proofy. See customer reviews and Wix SEO.

When not to add custom schema

  • Presets already cover the page type correctly.
  • You cannot keep markup in sync with visible content.
  • You are using schema to stuff keywords.
  • You expected Speed Booster or a chat app to inject schema. They do not.

FAQ

Does Wix support schema markup?+

Yes. Wix adds preset structured data for several page types, can AI-generate markup for Wix Blog posts, and lets you add manual JSON-LD. Markup must be valid JSON-LD, under 7,000 characters per add, and you can add up to five markups per page in the editor UI.

Will schema markup guarantee rich results?+

No. Schema makes pages eligible. Google decides whether to show rich results. Visible page content must match the markup.

Can Proofy add review AggregateRating JSON-LD?+

No. Proofy does not provide review JSON-LD or AggregateRating rich-result markup. Product reviews still help as on-page text and widgets.

Is schema a Speed Booster feature?+

No. Structured data is an SEO settings job, not a performance app job.

Does AI-generated structured data work on product pages?+

No. Wix's AI-generated structured data currently works only for Wix Blog posts. Use presets and/or manual JSON-LD for other page types.
